A hero's heart is broken [Open]

Who: Sonic and whoever visits
What: Visitation to Sonic from him dis-locating his arm.
When: Directly after this.
Where: The Pokemon Center

Sonic had returned to his room since he couldn't leave until at least tomorrow. He really wished he could just run far away as fast as possible, but sadly he was trapped. He felt much worse than before as he felt his heart ache after that fight he just had with Tails. It seems their friendship is pretty much over. Not a team anymore.

He was still angry that Tails had put himself in danger, and almost got killed while in that dimension that Sonic has come to really hate. However, most of that anger has been replaced with sadness worse than the graves incident had caused him. This was his best friend, his little bro, seemingly refusing to trust him and doesn't care about their bond anymore.

It hurt him. A lot.

So right now he's laying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. If anyone looks closely, they might notice the dark circles under his eyes.

Sometime later, there was a quiet knock on the door.

"S...S-Sonic...?"

That knock is enough to snap to his attention. Part of him still want to get left alone, but he's not mad at Fluttershy. She has nothing to do with him and Tails.

He remains laying down though. He doesn't feel like getting up right now.

"Come in."

The door opens slowly, and she peaks in first before coming inside.

"Sonic...a-are you okay...?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

No he's not.

"...Are you really...?"

She hated pushing, especially when she knew others weren't okay. But she's also learned that sometimes they needed that little push.

"My arm isn't that bad. I just have to wear this stupid thing for a while until my arm heals up."

He knows that's not what she's talking about, but he didn't really want to talk about what happened with Tails.

Well perhaps not, but she'll give him this distraction for a little.

"Mm...better to wear that for a while than to risk hurting your arm permanently..."

"Right. It would seriously bite if that happened."

He forces himself to sit up.

"What's up?"

"W-Well, I...I just went to see Tails...He's doing all right, but still needs to rest a bit more before he's ready to travel..."

She talks as though Sonic hasn't visited him yet, even though she knows he has.

Sonic linefaces slightly.

"Good for him."

There's a bitter tone to that. Possibly even sarcastic.

"As soon as they let me go, I'm splitting. You or Neph can come with or go with him. I won't stop you."

"You...aren't going to wait for him...?"

Even with the argument they had, she's surprised.

He looks away. Mostly to try to hide his sadness.

"No. We're not a team anymore. He and I are though."

"Wh...What happened...?"

Welp. No use hiding it now.

"We had an argument when I visited him earlier. I asked him why he was reckless in that dimension and he refused to tell me. He acted like he didn't care that we're supposed to be a team. Like he was some big shot."

He clenches a fist with his good arm.

"He even said 'I'm not the same Tails as you know, remember?'. As if we weren't friends anymore."

"O-Oh..."

She hesitated for a moment. She knew it would probably hurt him even more to learn that Tails told her when he wouldn't tell Sonic. But how could she help without letting him know?

"I-I'm...I'm not sure that's...entirely what he meant by that..."

"Why wouldn't it be? He clearly doesn't trust me anymore."

He lays back down.

"Guess I can't blame him too much there. Not the first time I've broken the kid's trust."

She can't help but blink a little at that. "What do you mean...?"

"Back home on our last adventure, we went to this place called the Lost Hex. There Eggman had control of this group of Zeti he called the Deadly Six. He had this magic conch that let him control them."

He felt a pit in his stomach. He's gonna have to let go of his pride again to continue.

"I..did something stupid like kick away the thing and they broke free from Eggman's control. They gained access to Eggman's machines, which could take life energy from the planet and the Zeti were planning to drain all life from Earth to make themselves stronger. Egg head went to use and asked us to help him get to his machine. I made another mistake and agreed to help him instead of trusting Tails to shut down Eggman's machine. He took it pretty badly and we fought over it.

Then later on, there was an egg capsule that turned out to be a trap and I ended up getting him captured instead of me. He almost ended up a robot 'cause of me. Heck, the whole world almost was gone because I kicked that stupid thing.

I did apologize to him after we beat the Zeti and later Eggman when he turned on us. He seemed cool with the apology at the time. We were able to stop the machine and restore everything to normal."

She's silent for a moment as she listens to his story. Goodness, these two certainly had more to talk about than either of them realized.

"B-But...the Tails we know here...isn't that Tails...right? So...he doesn't know anything about that...?"

"He went through that too."

Sorry Fluttershy. That lead won't get you anywhere.

"Mm...." This is when different versions of someone can get complicated.

"Still...if he had really been upset about that...he wouldn't have agreed to travel with you all this time, right...?"

"I guess, but then why the sudden change? Why won't he trust me? We're supposed to be like brothers."

Now he was confused. Why was Tails suddenly refusing to trust him and not tell him what's going on?

"I don't get it."

"E-Even...the closest people...can sometimes keep something from someone they care about...especially if they're scared of how that person might react to...such a secret..."

"He should know he can trust me with anything that's bothering him."

What kind of secret could he have that he can't trust him with?

"But...if he feels he can't...shouldn't you trust him to know that he might have a good reason for it...?"

"......"

Logically she's right. If Tails had his own reasons for not telling him, then HE should trust him. But Sonic's heart still felt hurt. His pride was already bruised enough from the disastrous trip to the Graveyard dimension, and this fight made it all the worse.

She's silent for a moment, letting him consider that for a moment. Then she sighs softly.

"Sonic...I-I know it can seem hard...b-but give him a chance...He may want to tell you...but he's just having trouble figuring out how...

"If you really want to find out what's happening...then you just have to be there for him...and when he's ready, he'll tell you..."

"...Yeah, I suppose you're right. I'll stick around for now."

Granted he was gonna stay away from Tails still, but yay progress?

She gave him a small smile. She knew he was still a bit uncertain about the whole thing, but staying was still something at least.

"Thank you...I'm sure Tails would be glad to know you're still around when he recovers..."

"Maybe."

Part of him is hoping Tails will apologize to him later, but he had a feeling that won't be the case.

"Don't worry...things will work out..."

At least she's hoping so. Once Tails is able to explain, hopefully Sonic will understand.
